Okay, here we go. Name three a-ha songs. I was a big a-ha fan (still am, actually), so I can name a lotta songs from them. But I’m guessing my two audience members weren’t a-ha fans. So tell me, what are three of their songs? As always, no peeking.

I feel like these questions really just underline that we are half-a-generation out of synch musically.
I cannot name three A-Ha songs. But I can name a bunch of Reel Big Fish songs, of which, their cover of “Take on Me” was their second biggest hit.
Obligatory “Take on Me”. Also “The Sun Always Shines on TV”. After that, pretty sure I’ve never even heard a third.
These are fun. Wish I could have you fellas over to join my wife and I for our usual Friday post-work music video happy hour, but you can check out our 3000+ video playlist. [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLa9k-p5fKIwCSEZyvuxwPp8I7WQUChTYE] We (and by “we” I mean mostly Kristen) went through every 120 Minutes episode list and added every video, plus we’ve added hundreds of others. Clearly we need more a-ha though.
I have heard of Reel Big Fish. If I remember correctly, they didn’t impress me. But it’s been a looong time since I heard them. I don’t technically know any of their songs, except of course, “Take On Me”. Learned that one from you just now. So you’re saying it’s all a matter of timing? I can see that. Well, not ALL a matter of timing. I was into these bands (except for Wang Chung), and didn’t really know anybody else who was.
As a direct result of posting these tests, I just bought a Simple Minds album, _Once Upon A Time_ (1985), which is the one I had when I was a kid. Good stuff.
Josh, for my Money _Scoundrel Days_ is the best a-ha album if you’re looking to get something. Their second album. The single was “Cry Wolf”.
Josh, I’ve poked around, and that is a fearsome playlist. I can’t get into it though. I looked at it for ten minutes, watched a few videos, and bought an album already. The Other Ones if you’re curious. Found it on Amazon. I knew their song “Holiday” but “We Are What We Are” was new to me. And I now have it. If I go through the whole list I’m liable to spend a shitload of money I don’t have, and I don’t have the willpower. 🙂
Re: Reel Big Fish.
They… are not real impressive. I like them more than they are good, because I’m a sucker for 3rd Wave Ska.
Re: Video Playlist
I love music videos. Love ’em! The idea of a weekly music video happy hour is a lovely one. I’ve been curating my own, much much smaller list of music videos, although I’ve been ripping them to a hard drive instead of creating a Youtube playlist. I am going to be rifling through your list like crazy.
Post-DS9-blogging I was going to do some music video blogging but never worked up the energy. Maybe these posts will be inspiring.
