Getting It Out There

Here’s the thing. I think I write good content on the blog. I think I’m at a point where I wouldn’t mind reaching a wider audience. But I don’t have the will or the energy to publicize. I won’t go on social media. I’m not on Facebook or Twitter. I have an Instagram, but I never post, I just look at other people’s posts. I’m not gonna go out and sell myself. I’m not gonna put myself out there in a way that tries to induce people to check out my blog. I’m not gonna go say provocative things on social media trying to get attention. Just, I don’t wanna do any of that shit. But I think I can make people’s lives better, with fiction and philosophy and generally entertaining and/or quirky shit. It’s good stuff on this blog. I fear I am doomed to obscurity, however.

Perhaps you can help, my readers. There are a few of you. Do you know anybody who might like one of my stories or posts or magic items or culture snippets or whatever? You could send them a link. Or post on the dreaded social media platform of your choice. It would only take a second, and then perhaps more people would come and read and comment. I think I’m ready for that, but I don’t think I’ll ever be ready to promote my content myself. That’s where you could come in, if you felt like it.

Either way, I’m not gonna stop posting. I derive benefit from writing this blog, even if it is never widely read. And I’m not putting pressure on you to publicize my blog for free. It’s just something nice I thought of that you could do for me, if I have brought you any pleasure over the years with my work. But like yeah, you totally don’t have to, and I don’t really expect it. It’s just an idea I had.

“New” Quote

For the first time in over five years, I have put a new quote at the top of the Quotes list. It’s not really new though, because it was already on the list. I just moved it up to the top of the list and said it was new. The thing is, I have no compunctions against putting quotes I love into the faces of anybody who looks my way. ‘Cause they’re so cool. Quotes in general, but my list in particular.

This “new” quote was on the very first quotes page I ever did, back in the old SimplePhrase days. And I just felt like drawing attention to it again. It’s been a long time since it was at the top of the list. Some people might not be familiar with it. Seems likely, actually. So go read the quote, and read the ones after it too if you feel like a good quotes list. You can click the link in the previous paragraph to get to it, or you should be able to use site navigation to get there as well. Poke around the page and click where it says, “Quotes”.

The Dude Abides, and So Do I

Introductory paragraph that acknowledges that the name of this website, Ethan Abides, is a Lebowski reference, since somebody asked.

For the record, I am similar to the Dude in four respects.* First, we’re both unemployed. Second, we both smoke weed. Third, we both don’t like the Eagles. Fourth, we both abide. There, I’m afraid, the similarities end.

* I mean, beyond the fact that we’re both cis-het white middle class American men, and the raft of similarities that come with those designations.

Quasi Trundles On

Hey gang. I recently updated Quasi, on the home page of this web thing. This is a fairly significant upgrade, in my opinion, and I’m curious to hear other people’s opinions. If you haven’t looked at Quasi in a while, or ever, I encourage you to take a moment to check it out. It’s better than ever, and I can tell you that reading it is generally a positive experience. After reading, leave a comment if you have anything you wanna tell me. Thanks for your time.

New Quasi Postulate

Hey gang, I have birthed a new Quasi postulate. (Quasi, of course, being my existential to-do list that lives on the main page here at

Let’s make a game of it. Can you guess which postulate is the new one? The winner doesn’t get anything (unless they get it themselves), but I will tell you whether your guess is right or not. Click here for Quasi.

I feel kinda conflicted about the previous paragraph. That’s a standard blog thing, trying to drum up conversation in your comment section. But man, I hate comment sections. Oh well. There it is. Whatever will be, will be.

The Cock Movie Project now online

Good news, everybody. I don’t know if there’s actually an everybody to address though. I don’t know if anyone still subscribes to this blog. Doesn’t matter. I’ve got good news, and if it’s the only option I’ll scream it into the void.

What’s the good news? I’m glad you asked. After a years-long hiatus, I am putting the Cock Movie Project back online. Click here or find it in the header; it’s got it’s own button and everything.

Enjoy, whoever is out there.
